Don’t Use Personal Connections in your Georgia Case

Maybe ten to twenty percent of the time I'll have a client come in and say, “You know I was charged in this case and I know somebody that works in that court system, who works for that county or city government. Should I give them a call and see what they can do to help?” My answer is no. Don't call them. Don't ask them to put the strong arm or leverage on anyone that’s handling this case because you're more likely to create resentment than you are to do anything positive. I take the position, “Let’s just do it the old traditional way.

Hard work, preparation and go into court and see what we can do with the case.” Most of these connections sound good but they really don't exist. In today's society with the pressure that’s on prosecutors and judges from MADD and a lot of other sources, you don't want to be out there putting pressure on someone who can’t help you anyway. Let us do our job and don't get into that because you don’t want to be charged with tampering with evidence or trying to get involved in something like that. You may lose a good judge assignment that has to recues him or herself and you may get a worse judge then you had before.
