Anytime we're involved in a case in which there’s an accident, especially one involving death or serious injury, it's going to be a felony sooner or later. We're going to tell you one thing and one thing for sure, “You need an accident investigator out there immediately.” We use accident investigators who at one time were trained by the state patrol and who have taken national training on accident reconstruction investigation, that type of thing.

They deal with matters such as vehicle defects and roadway problems. A design of a roadway that’s wrong and the county or city hasn't fixed it. It might even be that water pooled up from a heavy rain and they didn't have proper drainage. Don't sit there and wait around for three months thinking, “What am I going to do? What am I going to do?” You need to call us on our 24/7 number immediately.

We have had accident investigators at the scene the next day or two days later. That's the best time for them to find the physical evidence: pieces of a car, skid marks, and yaw marks. These are all the things that they're going to measure and be able to tell us what your speed was and what the conditions were that led to the wreck. We need an explanation and we don't just want to trust that the one from the police is going to be the right one.
