Georgia Driving Without a License LawyersPenalties for driving without a license

As previously mentioned, this is a criminal offense and with that comes strict penalties. For example, in New York being convicted of driving without a license is a misdemeanor punishable by jail for up to 30 days and a fine of $500. It’s also a misdemeanor in Florida and in California your car can be impounded for 30 days or forfeited to the state. A conviction in Illinois will result in the suspension or revocation of your license and your right to apply for a license will be taken away. It’s considered a misdemeanor in Texas and you’ll have to pay a fine of $200.

If you happen to be moving either to or from Georgia, it’s important to know that you must go to the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles and apply for a new license. When you become a resident of a new state, you only have a certain number of days to apply for a new driver’s license. Though it varies from state to state, generally it’s around 30 days. If you fail to make the deadline, your old license will become invalid and suddenly you’re an unlicensed driver!

Perhaps either knowingly or unknowingly you allowed an unlicensed driver to operate your vehicle. This is also a serious offense. In Florida, you can be put in jail for 30 days and have to pay a fine. And in California, unless you have a stolen vehicle report your vehicle can be impounded for 30 days or forfeited to the state.
