When people come to us and they’re repeat offenders we might tell them, “You want to go ahead and be assessed for an alcohol or drug problem and if there’s treatment recommended to start on that”. We might even tell them, “Go ahead and go to the risk reduction school”, which is DUI school. They may say, “Well am I not admitting something by doing that? Am I not exposing myself to the state or the prosecutor saying, “Look he's already going to DUI school.” Well the answers no because it's all done privately. We send you to a private counselor, not a state councilor.

The DUI schools are also private and they don't even know you've been into your certificate is turned in and we won’t do that until and unless we need to later in the case. If we're telling you to do something, it’s to prepare us to be able to go to trial or to protect you against a harsher sentence, especially in a repeat offender case. Don't think we're giving up you and we’re sending you to these things because we’re going to plead you guilty because if you say, “I'm going to trial”, we're going with you.
