The law in Georgia changed July, 1st 2008. If you were arrested on that day, or any day after, there are some new laws that you need to know about. Instead of having a five year look back, that is a time period that the law will look back and harshly punish you if you're a repeat offender, they've extended that to a ten year look back. The effect of that law is immediate. It's not prospective and it doesn't mean the case is made after that date.

If you were arrested July 2nd, 1998 on a DUI and you were arrested July 1st, 2008 on a DUI, you are a second offender. You're going to be punished much more harshly. Anywhere from three to six times more harshly on community service hours, jail time, all of the punishments. You're also going to lose many of the rights you would of had if under the five year law. If you've been charged with a DUI and from date of arrest to date of arrest it’s within ten years, you need to call us. This includes offenses out of state as well as offenses that occurred in state.
