Each time an Intoxilyzer 5000 test is given, the police officer will open one of these small plastic packages and pull the mouthpiece out, usually holding onto it like this. He or she will put the mouthpiece in and then will turn it down toward you for you to give a sample. You’re going to give two samples to make one complete test. When you're asked to blow into this you're going to blow for a long period of time and you have to give enough pressure to keep the tone of the machine on.

If you don't they're going to say you're not blowing properly. Once you've given two samples that will be the end of your test. These mouth pieces have a little bit of a baffle in it where air goes into and there's a little piece to the side which is supposed to collect moisture. That's called the Spit Trap. Every officer is trained at the academy that this prevents moisture from getting in the machine. If you hang on one second, I’m going to show you how well it works.
