If we have a situation come in our door with a sixteen year old or seventeen year old driver, all sorts of new issues appear. For example, anyone under seventeen who gets a DUI, it’s going to be handled in juvenile court and not in regular criminal court. That's good in one way and it’s bad in another. It’s bad because you don't get the right to jury trial in juvenile court. You're actually dealing with the judge and what’s called a delinquency adjudication. You're not dealing with a criminal case any longer.

If you lose that case you can lose the right to drive and you may not be eligible for any license until age eighteen, depending on when that case is resolved. Same thing will happen with a seventeen year old. He'll start though in criminal court, not a juvenile, and you could be prevented from getting any type of license until your eighteenth birthday and maybe even longer depending on the case. With the person that age you've got new issues and it doesn't mean you should just walk in handle it yourself because these things are going to be something that's going to be a problem for many years. Starting that young with a DUI it can be a real problem so come in and get a free interview and let's see what we can do for you.
