Georgia DUI Retainer & Fee Structure
When people call our office sometimes they are asking, “Well can I pay this by the month?” The way it works in criminal defense is that the fee is going to be required to be paid before the case is concluded. We give you a fee schedule and we stage in the fees based on the particular point in the case that we are when you pay the fee. We always require a retainer and that retainer is a substantial amount because once we sign on to be your attorney it's very difficult to get out of a case you have to apply with the court, have a hearing, and give you notice with ten days prior advanced time to discuss it.
Then you have to come to the hearing and the judge decides to let us out or not. We do require a retainer. We do require incremental payments as the case moves along. We don't do any financing as you would think of financing. There is no $99 down and $49 a month. We do take MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. We can use your card or with written permission from a family member or friend we can use someone else's card to put the fees on. Then you can pay them back over a period of time that suits your own budget. Don't be discouraged about getting legal service.
We're going to help you. We’ll find an answer but please understand we’re not a bank and we can't act like a bank as far as taking incremental payments. Most cases are over between five and twelve months and probably the average is closer to ten or eleven but that's the range depending on the court we are in. Understand that we will do what we can to help you but we don't finance cases on a monthly payment basis.
