Any person who is a repeat offender in the state of Georgia and has to deal with the criminal penalties and now after July 1st 2008 that means looking ten years back. In order to get a driver's license back after they've been suspended they're going to have to go through the Ignition Interlock process. Ignition Interlock means that you are going to have to attach a device to the ignition system of your car that has a breath tube that’s required to blow into before the car will crank.

There's actually a penalty that’s actually a crime to let someone else blow into the tube to crank your car for you. Not only do you have to do that to start the car but periodically a signal will go off. You have to pull over and blow into it again to ensure that you're not driving with alcohol in your system. These devices are not only embarrassing but they are inconvenient.

You also have to take them in for periodic download once a month and that data is sent to your court system to make sure you've had no violations. It cost you some money as well, about sixty dollars every week to have this on your car. You’re going to want to not have this on your record if you can avoid it. This is one more reason to fight your case and not just walk in and plead guilty and get an Ignition Interlock put on your vehicle.
