Different courts around the state will put people on probation on either home monitoring with an alcohol device connected to a hard line telephone that can be used to monitor them during the hours they’re not at work. Some judges are concerned about people with bad records and they'll put what's called a transdermal monitor or ankle bracelet on them. These devices sometimes have to be checked and downloaded daily but these devices can also let you go just about any place and be checked at all times with the computer keeping up with whether or not you’d consumed any alcohol.

If we're going to have this situation for you that we’re trying to work out, either pre-trial or in probation, we’ll tell you all the in’s and out’s, tell you the cost, and we'll tell you what happens if you ever get a false positive result. What you need to do, which is go get a blood test immediately to show you didn't have any alcohol as the device might say you do. These things aren’t perfect, but they sure beat sitting in a jail cell.
