When you come to visit with us we may get a good bit of personal history. We’re not just curious and we're not trying to invade your privacy but were looking for any issue that we can use as a tool for negotiating your case. For example, if you have a husband or a son in Afghanistan or Iraq we may be able to use that. We don't know. We just want to know what the situation is.

If you have family members who were police officers or ex-military people, that sometimes can make a difference with some officers who have a similar history. When we ask questions we’re not just doing it for idle chatter. We’re trying to find out what's in the profile that can help us. I can remember several cases in which my client had an autistic or to otherwise challenged child and we were able to use that to get a case reduced when it was a pretty tough case to begin with.

Again, we don't mean to invade your privacy we’re doing it for the benefit of the case. We ask these questions to be fully prepared and not knowing what's going to make a difference in each case.
