It's very rare that a case is dismissed unless we find some problem with what the police did. Or what the prosecutor did in the paperwork preparing for trial. In the middle of trial errors are also made by the prosecution or the judge, and sometimes even the police officers. If you don't fight the case and walk in and say I want to plead guilty, they will gladly take your guilty plea.

By fighting the case you create opportunities to win the case then or to set up a case for an appeal later that can reverse a conviction. So far in my thirty four years I filed two hundred appeals. Some of those are pre-trial appeals or post-trial appeals. Some of those I’ve taken over for other attorneys and file them at that time. The threat of appeal is an important tool that an attorney who does trials has over someone who doesn't do trials.
