I’ve mentioned the interstate compact for anyone who gets a second lifetime DUI. To get more information please visit interstatecompact.org and look at rule 2.105 and about twelve or thirteen sub-sections after that. What this law says is that for any sentence that has probation of twelve months or longer which includes stacking another offense like speeding or reckless driving on top of that or in some states like California the minimum probation on a first offense is three full years. You’re going to be restricted from relocating to another state and even traveling to another state.

That doesn't matter if you live in the other state or you have a job, it doesn't matter. You are going to be restricted so you need to read those rules and talk things over with your attorney. If you're talking to an attorney that’s not aware of this law you might want to think, “What am I doing here?” This is very important because you can enter the plea and think you're getting by for a cheap fee and the next thing you know you're hiring an attorney to help you figure out how to get back to the state you need to get to. Get back for a job, your family, or for other purposes as you are not going anywhere. Look at the law and read it for yourself and you may be more informed than the attorney you're using at this time.
