This Intoxilyzer 5000 is the current version of this machine. Back when I took the first breath test course I've ever taken back to 1996, the same basic machine was in existence, using the same platform and same patent. On this machine it was invented so long ago, around 1982 when the patent was obtained at least, this machine didn't have cell phone rays to deal with or PDA’s. That is, anything with current radiation on it.

This thing will actually read positive as though alcohol is in it from a cell phone being on. I'm going to give you a clip from 1996. When we did this you're going to see my cell phone being held near the machine and that's a .6 watt phone, versus 4-6 watt two-way radios that police have nowadays. I want you to see how much reading comes off this machine just if there's a cell phone nearby that’s operational. How many cell phones are in a police station? That would be a good question to ask if you have a defense attorney that knows what's going on, so watch this clip.
