DUI Classes

If you were arrested for drunk driving in Alpharetta, Milton, or Crabapple you may be required to attend Alpharetta DUI classes at an Alpharetta DUI school. The official name of this program is the DUI Alcohol or Drug Use Risk Reduction Program, or RRP. An Alpharetta judge is mandated by state law to hand down the requirement that you successfully complete this 20 hour program. To give convicted Georgia drunk drivers a chance to minimize time spent away from work or school, most Alpharetta DU schools offer DUI classes all day Saturday and Sunday, and Monday evenings. Saturday and Sunday sessions are 8 hours long, and the Monday evening class is 4 hours. A conviction on any of the following criminal charges requires attendance at an Alpharetta RRP:

  • DUI (Driving Under the Influence)
  • BUI (Boating Under the Influence)
  • Drug Possession
  • Other Drug Offenses
  • Underage Possession of Drugs or Alcohol

You must complete a risk assessment before you can take the DUI class. The assessment consists of 130 questions designed to determine if you have a problem with alcohol or drugs. The assessment costs a non-negotiable $130, and this fee is set by state law. Every Alpharetta DUI school charges the same mandated fee for its classes.

The 20 hour Alpharetta DUI classes fee is $235 plus another $20 for the class manual. These fees are also set by the State of Georgia. So when shopping around for an Alpharetta DUI school, price is not one of the variables to consider. You should base your decision on proximity to your home or office, availability of public transportation (especially if your driver’s license was confiscated at the time of your arrest), and reputation of the instructors. Call the schools in your area and ask them questions about their DUI classes.

Should I Complete DUI Classes Before my Alpharetta DUI Case is Decided?

Most Alpharetta DUI lawyers will recommend that you attend an Alpharetta DUI school and get a course completion certificate before your case goes to trial. Taking this step can show your Alpharetta judge that you are accepting responsibility for drinking and driving, and that you realize you may have a problem with alcohol or drugs. As with all decisions you need to make about your DUI case, the ultimate choice is yours. One of our superb Alpharetta DUI lawyers will discuss the pros and cons with you, based on the facts of your case. Variables to consider are if this is your first offense DUI , is the drunk driving charge a felony DUI or misdemeanor DUI, and do you have the immediate funds to attend an Alpharetta DUI school. Remember, a DUI case and possible conviction are expensive. Besides your Alpharetta criminal lawyer’s fees, you face court fines, possible ignition interlock device costs, and potential loss of income.

Our top-rated Alpharetta DUI attorneys serve numerous other jurisdictions in North Fulton County: Sandy Springs, Roswell, Johns Creek, and Milton.

★★★★★
Mr. Larry Kohn could not have been more helpful. I sent him a message for a free consultation, and unfortunately my case had to be handled in another state. But he completely walked me through everything I needed to do, and even offered to assist the lawyer I did find in Virginia should they need help with my case. Jamie V.
★★★★★
Mr. Kohn is just amazing. He is truthful and realistic when explaining potential outcomes of your case and doesn’t force you to hire him or anything. When I met him, he went through everything about the case and ways to fight it off first before even telling me about his services. He got my case dismissed and kept me out of a lot of potential problems with school applications and future job opportunities. I highly recommend him to anyone. Anurag G.
